Summer Application

Description:

This Summer Residency is targeted at younger artists of all disciplines in their 20s and 30s seeking a place to explore their creative process, form community, collaborate, and recharge or boost their life as an artist. Residencies are 1-2 months from June through August.

June and July: The space is yours! Residents are free to be as creative/wild/ambitious as they wish with their time, and have the entire Sable Land as their playground/studio. Apart from copious time designated to creative work, on a day to day basis Residents can expect to spend time engaging in work-trade (see below), showing off their cooking skills during our family-style dinners (every week night), or wandering around the land exploring. We have great swimming nearby and naps in the field are encouraged!

August: In addition to everything above, the August residency is very focused on a guided collaborative project involving all of the Resident Artists. This project will center around a theme (still undecided!), and the artists will work together each day to create a performance/opening/spectacle/world that will culminate in our “Water in the Wood” showcase near the end of August. SEEKING ALL DISCIPLINES! This month is a lot of fun.

Note: The 2 month July-August Residents should be prepared to participate in the group collaboration during the month of August… and can certainly be the ones to set the stage by scheming and working beforehand if they so choose!

Residency Fee:

Our fee is $300 a month. Your deposit of $100 (see below) will be deducted from that fee. In addition, you will be expected to participate in 12 hours per week of work-trade. Part of our residency is physical engagement with the land. This consists of 6 hours per week in our partner Fat Dragon Farm’s gardens (to grow the food we eat!), and 6 hours of work around the land, which may include trail building, brush moving, small construction projects, or various other jobs. Don’t worry, these work times are actually really fun! They provide a nice time to take a break from your art practice, and are a good opportunity to spend time with your fellow Residents.

$300 payment / month
+ 12 hours / week of work-trade

If accepted, you will be asked to send a $100 non-refundable deposit along with your final commitment.

NOTE: It is important to us that Sable is accessible to all. No one will be turned away if you can't afford our residency fee. Please contact us at apply@thesableproject.org. We are happy to help point you in the direction of funding sources or figure out alternative funding so that you can be here.
