This Summer Residency is targeted at younger artists of all disciplines in their 20's and 30's seeking a place to explore their creative process, form community, collaborate, and recharge or boost their life as an artist. Residencies are 1-2 months from June through August.
June and July: The space is yours! Residents are free to be as creative/wild/ambitious as they wish with their time, and have the entire Sable Land as their playground/studio. Apart from copious time designated to creative work, on a day to day basis Residents can expect to spend time gardening on our organic veggie, fruit, and herb farm, showing off their cooking skills during our family-style dinners (every week night), or wandering around the land exploring. We have great swimming nearby and naps in the field are encouraged.
August: In addition to everything above, the August residency has an explicit mission to promote collaboration among Resident Artists. We are seeking artists to explore the theme of “the aesthetics of sustainability” within a specific framework, such as a text, play, etc. that we want your help to choose/create/design! This will culminate in a production/spectacle/performance near the end of August. Not a performer? Fear not! This residency is still for you.
Note: The 2 month July-August residents should be prepared to participate in the group collaboration during the month of August… and can certainly be the ones to set the stage by scheming and working beforehand if they so choose!
Our fee is $650 a month. However, this is split into two parts: $300 in cash, and 9 hours per week of work around the land (which we value at $350/month). Generally this consists of work on the farm (to grow the food we eat!), but may include trail building, brush moving, or small construction projects if Residents are interested. Don’t worry, these work times are actually really fun! They provide a nice time to take a break from your art practice, and are a good opportunity to spend time with your fellow Residents.

Your Residency Fee pays for food we don’t grow ourselves, art/living supplies we provide, our new plumbing system, and general expenses that make Sable possible.
If accepted, you will be asked to send a $100 non-refundable deposit along with your final commitment.
No one will be turned away if you can't afford our residency fee. We are happy to help point you in the direction of funding sources or figure out alternative funding so that you can be here.
Application deadline is February 1st at 11:59PM EST. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis so apply now as we may fill the spots before February 1st! Please fill out the form below with the subject line "Summer Artist Application."
